24 parcels per capita per year
Per capita, every German receives 24 parcels a year - more than in other countries, according to a recently published study. The returns are becoming a problem; economically as well as humanly. Because there are still countless employees in Germany who have to spend hours every day cutting open parcels with a hand knife. Unfortunately, despite protective gloves and training, cuts often occur. These are not only caused by the sharp knife, but often also by the sharp edges of the carton.
3000 occupational accidents with incapacity for work of more than 3 days per year
According to a study from 2017, the hand is the most frequently injured of all parts of the body, according to the Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Raw Materials and the Chemical Industry (BGHW). In the member companies of the BGHW, around 3,000 accidents at work with hand knives occur every year, resulting in an inability to work for more than 3 days. The number of accidents with cardboard knives that result in no or "only" 1-3 days of incapacity to work is many times higher.
The risk of injury drops to zero - safety at work
ALS Automatic Logistic Solutions GmbH develops (as the only supplier in all of Europe) automatic parcel openers for intralogistics. The manual opening process is eliminated and the employee can devote himself to other, more important activities. In 2019, ALS launched a semi-automatic opener for SMEs and chain shops for the first time. The system is already worthwhile with a smaller parcel volume and can therefore be used in almost every business. There is no need for a knife. Direct contact with the carton is also eliminated. The risk of injury is reduced to zero.
