When cartons are to be opened by the tape cut in the returns department and in the incoming goods department.
The automatic package opener TOM (Tape-Only-Method) is specially designed for cartons that are sealed lengthwise only in the middle by means of adhesive tape, which is also only to be cut lengthwise. The system is therefore suitable for relatively homogeneous cartons which, for example, come from a uniform production and are to be reused.
Package sizes
The TOM package opener system can open packages from 160 x 140 x 100 mm (LxWxH) quickly and efficiently with a multiple blade on the top side without damaging the products inside. TOM can be used for carton sizes up to a maximum of 600 x 600 x 500 mm and can also be configured in three different ways to suit different use cases in practice.
How it works
If the incoming goods department and the returns department receive cartons that are all the same, the TOM system can be configured with preset height and width and the cartons can be pushed through under the multiple blade via a feeder conveyor belt. The blades then ensure that even diagonally applied parcel tape is safely cut so that the package is safely opened at the end and the goods inside can be easily removed.
Variable height and width detection
If the goods are received in different carton sizes, TOM can alternatively be configured with variable height detection and thus also open packages that are of different heights.
If the incoming parcels are even less standardised, TOM can not only automatically measure and position the blades to the correct height, but also automatically detect the width of the cartons and perform a width fixation.
The TOM automatic package opener can safely and reliably open up to 900 cartons per hour in the goods receiving area in all cases.
Cost saving
Since the machine does not need any breaks and does not slow down due to exhaustion, it achieves an overall return on investment of 2.5 times that of manual work and also prevents injuries that cannot be ruled out with manual opening.
The cost saving of machine compared to human manual labour is about 80 %.

Parcel and carton opener TOM
TOM - M
With the M model, all incoming cartons have the same dimensions (length, width, height), i.e. the system is preset manually for one carton size. If other formats are to be processed, the system must be changed manually.
TOM - H
With the H model, the cartons all have the same basic formats (length and width), the height can vary from carton to carton. The width of the conveyor is fixed, the height is measured and the blade is automatically adjusted for the respective carton. If other basic formats are to be processed, the system must be changed manually.
TOM - HW
With the HW model, processing is chaotic, i.e. each carton is measured according to width and height. The conveyor is then automatically adjusted to the correct carton width and the knife to the existing carton height before the carton enters the work area.
