When cardboard boxes need to be opened by cutting the tape in the returns department and at goods receiving.
The TOM (Tape-Only-Method) automatic package opener is specifically designed for cardboard boxes that are sealed lengthwise only in the center with adhesive tape and are intended to be cut open only along the length. The system is therefore suitable for relatively uniform cardboard boxes—such as those from a single production run—that are intended to be reused.
Package sizes
The TOM package opener system can quickly and efficiently open packages measuring 160 x 140 x 100 mm (LxWxH) or larger using a multi-blade mechanism on the top side, without damaging the contents. TOM can be used for cartons up to a maximum size of 600 x 600 x 500 mm and can also be configured in three different ways to accommodate various practical applications.
How it works
If the receiving and returns departments receive boxes that are all identical, the TOM system can be configured with preset height and width settings, and the boxes can be fed through the multi-blade cutter via a conveyor belt. The blades then ensure that even diagonally applied packing tape is cut cleanly, so that the package is securely opened at the end and the contents can be easily removed.
Variable height and width detection
If the goods arrive in boxes of different sizes, TOM can alternatively be configured with variable height detection, allowing it to open packages of varying heights.
If the incoming packages are even less standardized, TOM can not only automatically calibrate and position the blades to the correct height, but also automatically detect the width of the boxes and secure them in place.
The TOM automatic box opener can safely and reliably open up to 900 boxes per hour in the receiving area in all situations.
Cost savings
Since the machine does not require breaks and does not slow down due to fatigue, it achieves an overall time efficiency 2.5 times greater than manual labor and also prevents injuries that cannot be ruled out when opening manually.
The cost savings achieved by using machines instead of manual labor amount to approximately 80%.
The 3 versions of the automatic
TOM Package and Box Opener
TOM – M
With Model M, all incoming cartons have the same dimensions (length, width, height), meaning the system is manually preset for a specific carton size. If other sizes need to be processed, the system must be manually adjusted.
TOM – H
In Model H, all cartons have the same basic dimensions (length and width), but the height may vary from carton to carton. The width of the conveyor system is fixed; the height is measured, and the cutter is automatically adjusted for each carton. If cartons with different basic dimensions are to be processed, the system must be adjusted manually.
TOM – Hardware
The HW model uses a chaotic processing method, meaning that each carton is measured for width and height. The conveyor system is then automatically adjusted to the correct carton width and the cutter to the carton’s height before the carton enters the work area.
